JNL-2009-7
March 24, 2009
The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. (JAMA; Chairman: Satoshi Aoki) has made some amendments to the 41st Tokyo Motor Show 2009 to be held this fall.
The 41st Tokyo Motor Show 2009 takes a positive view of both the joy of driving and care for the environment, and its theme, "Fun Driving for Us, Eco Driving for Earth," makes a strong case for the fact that "fun" and "environment" are not mutually exclusive. As one of the world's primary source of information about state-of-the-art technologies and products, and as a venue for special events that allow visitors to experience for themselves "the dreams, fun and splendor of the automobile," the show seeks to instill greater appreciation for automobiles and motorcycles among the general public.
At previous shows, admission has been free for elementary school children and below. Free admission has been expanded to junior high school children and below in order to make it easier for families to attend the show.
The show will be held for a period of 13 days from Friday, October 23 to Wednesday, November 4, 2009; public viewing begins on Saturday, October 24. (Excludes 2 Press Days.)
Note that the period has been shortened by 4 days. In the press release of April 21, 2008 the show was set to run for 17 days from Friday, October 23 to Sunday, November 8, 2009. It is now the same length as the 37th show held in 2003.
It has been decided to cancel the large commercial vehicle and vehicle body sections, thereby making it possible to hold the show in a compact format.
The show will have exhibits from 3 governments, 1 organization and 122 companies representing 8 countries and 1 region. Total exhibition space will be 22,594 sqm.
This is a reduction of 120 exhibitors (1 government, 119 companies), primarily in the parts section, compared to the previous show (the 40th show of 2007), which had exhibitions from 4 governments, 1 organization and 241 companies representing 11 countries and 1 region. Likewise, exhibition space has declined by 49% compared to 44,587 sqm used in 2007.
The show also features a new Carrozzeria category that will have 3 exhibitors.
* Carrozzeria: Italian for "design workshop;" used to refer to small-scale, boutique automakers.
Tomy Co., Ltd. has decided to sponsor the Tomica /Choro-Q Corner at this years' show. The company has been a continuous sponsor of the corner since the 35th show in 2001. As always, the company will be selling commemorative Tokyo Motor Show "Tomica" miniature models on-site, and will also highlight the fun of the automobile with a 30-year retrospective exhibit of the miniature "Choro-Q" cars, which celebrate its 30th anniversary this year.
