Establishment of a New Vision and Introduction of
new “Sponsorship Program” for the 37th Tokyo Motor Show
– Passenger Cars & Motorcycles (2003)

JNL-2003-004
February 20, 2003

he Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA; Chairman: Yoshihide Munekuni) will hold the 37th Tokyo Motor Show from October 24 (Friday) to November 5 (Wednesday) of this year, at Makuhari Messe (Nippon Convention Center) in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture. The theme of this year’s show will be “The Challenge: Driving toward a Better Future.”
This will be the first “Passenger Cars & Motorcycles Show” to be planned and held by JAMA since its merger in May of last year with the Japan Motor Industrial Federation, the former host of the Tokyo Motor Show.
On this occasion, JAMA is putting out a call to all interested parties for sponsors, a first in the long history of the Tokyo Motor Show. The goal of this sponsorship program is to enable the Show to offer even greater added value than before, and to make it more attractive and more international from the perspective of exhibitors and visitors alike.

From JAMA’s perspective, in order to take advantage of the comprehensive capabilities engendered by the recent merger, to further cultivate the Tokyo Motor Show, whose long tradition has grown and developed along with the evolution of motorization in Japan since the first Tokyo Motor Show in 1954, and to secure the Show’s position as the No. 1 in the world, we have established the following Vision for the Future:

Vision for the Future

  1. Contribute to the development of the automobile industry and the revitalization of motorization in Japan, and continue to always captivate the younger generation.
  2. Strive to be a Motor Show that constantly leads the trends in automotive industries throughout the world.
  3. Maintain a firmly established position as a venue for international exchange among persons involved in the automotive industry.

As part of its efforts to make this Vision a reality, JAMA will implement a variety of special plans, aimed at expanding the capacity for transmitting information throughout the world, and attracting a broader scope of visitors, with a particular focus on younger people, including young women. JAMA is introducing a Sponsorship Program as one new method of securing resources to implement these plans.

Outline of the Sponsorship Program

The details of the Sponsorship Program are as follows: In exchange for a sponsorship fee, sponsors will be provided with advertising space on the venue and Show pamphlets, admission tickets, and the official Motor Show Web site and so forth. They will also receive a wide range of other benefits, including use of a dedicated booth for sponsor companies at the Show, exposure for sponsor company names, and invitation tickets for use in sales promotions.
The call for sponsors is open to a wide range of companies befitting the tradition and integrity of the Tokyo Motor Show except Japanese and foreign automobile and motorcycle manufacturers and their representative firms.
Hakuhodo Inc. will be the key company in charge of sponsorships, with participation from Kyodo Advertising Co., Ltd., and Mainichi Advertising, Inc. Promotion activities for the sale of the sponsorships began in mid-February.
